Note: Immigration file paperwork has conflicting references to Darwin and Cooktown. Dad says unlikely as this isn't a place represented by Tiy Loy or War Hing. May be a convenient location for records due to records being lost or a vagary of translation. Immigration file paperwork has conflicting references to Darwin and Cooktown. Dad says unlikely as this isn't a place represented by Tiy Loy or War Hing. May be a convenient location for records due to records being lost or a vagary of translation. Within Ah Young's Immigration file, 1896 is given quite consistently and over a number of years asthe date he arrived in Australia. In the file of nephew Choy Ching Wah, dated 1950, his arrival is given as 1885. This may be a clerical error. I think the 1896 date has more evidence. |

Research notes - Kogarah library One or two Ah Young's? There was another property off Stubbs St(lot 160, DP 7056 ), owned by "Ah Young" and using a farm name "Sun Sang War". There was correspondence to him 7 Oct 1937 which was incorrectly delivered delivered to Carrol St. The drop copy is noted as having been delivered to Ah Young of Sybil St. Also noted that different solicitors represented these two Ah Youngs. Conclusion: these are two different people. Source - Kogarah Council Archives |
Note
|
Research notes - Kogarah library There was a rates query 14 July 1938 which mentions Ah Long and Ah Young being of Sydney and Choy Bun bewing of China. This suggests that Choy Bun was the vendor who was about to travel back to China. Refer earlier corre item. |
